My
wife and I were blessed with the opportunity to travel to Logan
, Utah
, where we watched the
W.A.C. championships in gymnastics (my daughter is a gymnast for Southern
Utah University). As we left Logan
to go back to Cedar
City , Utah
(where my daughter goes
to school), we were met with strong winds from a storm that was blowing
in, with up to 81 mile an hour gusts.
Having
spent some time in the Texas
panhandle, you would think
that this would not have been such a big deal. However, I struggled mightily
to keep the truck on the road (many were the prayers in my mind). What
would otherwise have been an easy and uneventful trip was long and trying.
It required my complete attention, my best efforts, and my endurance.
One lapse of concentration and we could have been blown into a barrier
or off the road completely.
The
next day was calm and we were blessed with the opportunity to worship
with the congregation in Cedar
City
.
I
couldn't help but consider the contrast from one day to the other. The
truth is that our lives are just like that.
Some
days are calm and a blessing in the things that we enjoy as Christians.
On
the other hand, there are days that are dangerous to our soul with gusts
of temptation, enticement, and distraction.
These
days require our best efforts, our greatest endurance, and complete attention
in order to overcome.
How
important then are the words of the Apostle Paul, who said:
1
Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore,
my beloved brethren, be steadfast , immovable , always abounding
in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the
Lord.”
Remember
that some days the wind blows !
But
immovable are those who abound in the work of the Lord!
