Are You Spiritual?
Scripture Reading:
1 Corinthians 2:6-16
This text is probably the single best description of the process of
inspiration in all of scripture. The Apostle Paul, as well as all the
Apostles and prophets of the New Testament made known through the Spirit of
God, given to them, the entirety of truth, in their finite work,
“the Mind of Christ”.
·
To those anchored to this world, they would neither comprehend the process
or the product!
·
However, to those who would be spiritual, they would completely respect the
process and the product!
What does it mean to be spiritual?
Greek, “Pneumatikos”; one who
follows the Spirit.
Root word for our English, ‘pneumatic’; of or relating to air or gasses.
In this case – absolutely refers to one who follows the Spirit of God.
Spirit of God reveals – “Mind of
Christ!”
Matthew 28:18;
John 16:13-15
– through their work to be provided to all men,
Acts 2:17;
Jude 3
The Corinthian Christians had been given all the tools through the Spirit –
Paul’s prayer in opening:
1:4-9;
however, even though they had been given the Spirit’s benefits,
they were not being spiritual
–
3:1-4!
This bids us to state that it is absolutely possible to be intimate in
the knowledge of the Spirit of God; however, unless we allow it to guide
us in all things (especially transforming our nature), we can fail to be
spiritual!!!
Galatians 5:16;
2 Timothy 2:14-19
– this becomes then commentary on how we are sealed with the Spirit –
Ephesians 1:13-14
